When will your Android
phone get the Lollipop update? All you need to know
After news broke out that Android 5.0 Lollipop was officially being rolled out to devices, every smartphone holder had their bets on when they would receive their updates. Of course, Nexus holders and a few Google Play edition devices will be the first to get it, while few other companies have announced that they have received the codes from Google and the race has begun to be first to release the update to their users.
It might take a few
weeks more as most companies will make modifications to their UI but we can
give you a rough estimate as to when your device will receive the Android 5.0
Lollipop update.
Interestingly, the
only thing certain as of now is the announcement that Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and
Nexus 6, Nexus 7 will receive the update in November. The Nexus 9 will
arrive with Android Lollipop out of the box.
1. LG
Reports suggest that LG smartphone users will
receive the update this week itself. Focus is on their LG G3 to have the update
first. The company announced that LG G3 smartphone users in Poland will be
the first to download the new OS. Subsiquently the update will follow in
other countries. The upgrade will next be rolled out on LG G2.
Users can hope to see the update on their G2 early next year. The other
deivices to receive the update will include LG G3 stylus, LG G2 Mini, LG G Flex
and LG G Pad 8.3
2. Motorola
For a Moto user, the
odds to find out if their phone will receive their update is easy. Some users
claim that Motorola will beat Google and have the update before them. The
handsets which are included in the list are Moto E, Moto G(1st Gen. & 2nd
Gen), Moto X(1st Gen. & 2nd Gen) and Moto Droid Turbo. These devices are
expected to have the update by the end of 2014.
3. Samsung
After SamMobile announced
that their Galaxy S5 will be the first to receive the 5.0 update, the other
Samsung devices which will receive the Lollipop update are Galaxy Note
4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S5 Mini, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note
Edge. Eager fans across the Samsung spectrum will have an
official announcement as to when their devices will release the update.
4. Sony
Sony might be the only
company that made it loud and clear as to which devices will support the
Android 5.0 update. The devices are Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia
Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2,
Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet
Compact which was announced on their website.
The update will begin from 2015.
5. HTC
The company has given
us a mark of 90 days approximate to release the update after they receive the
source code. The devices which will have the update first will be HTC One
M7 and HTC One M8. The Nexus 9 tablet will have the update out of the box. The
company promises to roll out the update on time.
6. ASUS
Asus has given us an
approximate time as to when their devices will roll out the
update. Their popular Zenfone Series which includes ZenFone 4, Zenfone 5
and Zenfone 6 will receive the update by April 2015. The PadFone Infinity will
receive the update in June
