Xiaomi’s success story continues to push the boundaries of possible. The company reported sales of over 1.16 million smartphones at the Alibaba Singles’ day beating U.S sales from Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined.
The Alibaba’s Singles’
day sale is China’s biggest online shopping day which started off as a
celebration of anti-Valentine’s day or Bachelors day and the Chinese
e-commerce giant smashed all records — generating sales worth more than $9.3bn
in 24 hours on the company’s two main ecommerce marketplaces, Tmall and Taobao… $2
billion of which came in just 1 hour and 12 seconds.
Xiaomi topped the
Tmall brand store with a record 1.16 million Mi phones sold. And Xiaomi CEO Lei
Jun responded by tweeting, “It’s only the beginning of an amazing journey &
we’re aiming for the stars!”
CEO Jun further said:
“This demonstrates not just the overall strength of our businesses but also
highlights out supply chain, logistics and customer service prowess.”
The Mi/Redmi phones
boosted sales by becoming the top-selling smartphone but it also topped the TV,
Tablet, Wearable, electronic accessory, router equipment and headphone categories.
Xiaomi’s global VP,
Hugo Barra, also expressed his excitement with a tweet.
Xiaomi is also
planning to invest in 4G
chip solutions and was also reportedly investing $1
billion in Internet TV content.
